Learning to Trust Your Intuition When You're in the Funk

March 25, 20262 min read

Have you ever had a moment where something inside of you said, “Pay attention to this,” but you brushed it off?

Maybe you told yourself you were overthinking. Maybe you needed more proof. Maybe you decided you needed to “be logical” instead.

And then later you looked back and thought, “I knew that.”

That quiet signal is what we call intuition.

A lot of people assume intuition is something mystical or reserved for a few naturally gifted people. But the truth is that intuition is something all of us have access to. The challenge is that many of us have learned to ignore it.

When we find ourselves in the funk—feeling stuck, uncertain, or spinning our wheels trying to figure out what to do next—our instinct is usually to think harder.

More analysis.
More second-guessing.
More waiting until everything feels certain.

But clarity doesn’t always come from thinking.

Sometimes it comes from learning to listen.

That’s exactly what we explore in this week’s episode of the podcast, which kicks off a new Expert Series focused on tools that help us pivot out of the funk.

My guest is intuition expert Karoleen Fober, who helps people understand how intuition actually works and how to strengthen it so they can trust themselves more and make clearer decisions.

One of the ideas Karoleen shared during our conversation is that intuition is much like a muscle. The more you pay attention to it, the stronger it becomes. But if you constantly dismiss it, talk yourself out of it, or wait for perfect certainty before acting, it becomes much harder to recognize.

Many of us have been conditioned to override that inner voice in favor of external validation—what other people think, what the “safe” option is, or what logic alone tells us to do. But when you start strengthening your intuition, something shifts. You begin to trust yourself more. And that trust can be a powerful catalyst for getting out of the funk.

Because when you trust your intuition, you’re less likely to stay stuck in indecision. You become more willing to take the next step, even if you don’t have every answer yet. Sometimes that’s all it takes to create momentum.

One step.
One small pivot.
One decision that moves you forward.

A few questions to consider:

  • When was the last time you had a gut feeling about something but talked yourself out of it?

  • What might change if you trusted that inner signal a little sooner?

  • And what might be trying to get your attention right now?

If you're curious about how your intuition naturally shows up, Karoleen has created a short Intuition Quiz that helps you discover your intuitive style.

And if you'd like to dive deeper into the conversation, listen to the full podcast episode where Karoleen and I explore how strengthening your intuition can help guide your next best step when you're feeling stuck.

Because sometimes the first step out of the funk starts with learning to trust yourself again.
